the last several months. the president has enjoyed an unfavorable positive rating in each state. romney's likability score has been more mix. with the exception of virginia, north carolina and florida, his strongest three states, his likability has been upside-down. that may have changed but we will be in our next round of polls interested to see if the debate has reset the campaign in terms of these numbers. you have heard a lot of -- that was sold. pathways to the 270 alecto world votes and how president obama probably has more pathways to that war easier ways of putting that together because it was built in the. state/read state differences but let me make a couple points on this. if you start with the. states and add florida which is 29 it is that 2 is 66 and would meet any of the other states to get 270. if you start again with the 237 and give romney ohio--give romney florida but obama of ohio, he is at 255 and obama would need two under states as long as one of them isn't new hampshire. only foury 40 votes. a comment on this. these states are pretty much all close. although the c

expect mr. romney will win that state. florida is a swing state. polls suggest the president is pulling away from mr. romney. it is in that too close to call category. take me inside florida and tell me what has happened on this issue. they are the ones, with their aggressive push, put this issue front and center for a lot of americans on the front pages of papers about this issue. >> it is amazing we are talking about voting controversies in florida in 2012, given what went on in 2000. it is staggering to think that florida could be going back to those days. but what happened is, after republican governor richard scott was elected in 2010, he and the republican legislature worked to reword clause and they made major changes. one was to put severe burdens on voter registration drives and prevent groups like the league of women voters from registering voters. that was enacted in 2011 and was blocked by the courts in may, 2012. for about a year, voter registration drives were shut down in florida. he cut back early voting from 14 days to 8 days, including the sunday before the election wh

, jim lehrer asked that and i thought they stated their case and mitt romney stated it well where he said he doesn't believe the federal government can do much that is better than the private sector can be left to do or individuals can do and barack obama, you know, he started by saying the major role of government is keeping its people safe. but that is a fundamental disagreement between conservatives and liberals. i think -- i don't know that too many people would have been confused about their answers or would have expected them to say something else but i think it's important that your vote this time around is determined by what role you think government should have. the key difference to remeer is in the last four years with the economic collapse, we live in a world, in a country where 71% of economic decisions are directed by the american, by the voter, by the consumer. when that drops, because of the fact that people don't have money and they don't have jobs, who fills in for it? >> the fed. >> that is what some of the thinking is. the government should play a bigger role in d

to win the state of pennsylvania, done. >> make voting harder, done. that's going to amitt romney to win our state. the judge sort of squashed it. technically, he did. this should ought to be the most important thing. the bottom line here in pennsylvania is that as of this judge's ruling today, you don't have to have a driver's license or photo i.d. you can still vote in the election this november if dwrour a legal voter even if you don't have that i.d. so hundreds of thousands of old people and poor people and students and people who just live in philly and take public transportation and don't have a driver's license, hundreds of thousands, maybe more than a million legal voters who were going to be blocked from voting from this new republican law are now going to be allowed to vote. but conveniently for the people trying to stop them from voting, this judge left a couple things still intact. first, the judge made clear that poll workers can still ask people if they have i.d. any way. even though fst not legally required for you to have an i.d. to vote, he says the poll worker can still

me start with you. it looks like mitt romney is significantly down in the important swing states. does your strategy shift now and if so how? >> i think he has to be aggressive, without seeming to be aggressive and i think it's a tricky act for him to pull off. i think that his supporters realize that he is probably behind as the polls indicate and that he needs to really change some minds tonight. i think in some way there's more pressure on president obama simply because the polls indicate and most people expect that he will win the debate and that's a tough position to be in. but at the same time because governor romney has to do so much more -- he has to change the course of this race tonight, and that puts an enormous amount of pressure on him. so he is going to try to be aggressive, but his advisors in one ear are saying be aggressive, and in the other ear they are saying be a nice guy. the president's popularity ratings are high. you can't be too over the top and come off unlikable. >> cenk: i think that's it exactly. and can he pull off that really t

to win pennsylvania and i'm become to become the next president of the united states. >> mitt romney said that on friday when the republican pennsylvania victory plan was still on track. >> voter i.d., which is going to allow governor romney to win the state of pennsylvania. done. >> but a judge today said it's not done. in a huge win for voters rights, the judge blocked the key provision for the voter i.d. law. on election day, pennsylvania voters can be asked for a photo i.d. but are not required to show voter i.d. in order to cast a regular ballot. the judge also ruled that the state can continue its advertising campaign. it worries voters rights activists because they say it could confuse voters. a lawyer told reporters if that message doesn't change, then we may be back in court. voters in pennsylvania have just one week left to register to vote. pennsylvania is the 14th state since 2010 to block or blunt a republican-led restrictive voter law, according to the brennan center. joining me now, msnbc's joy reid, senior correspondent. this was a big win today in that pennsylvania courtr
